ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITIES

Great Guana Cay Resort is located approximately one mile from the Black Point settlement on Great Guana Cay. Black Point settlement, with over 300 residents, is the largest settlement in the Exuma Chain outside of Georgetown on Great Exuma island. The develop team, headed by Mr. Allen Smith, a Bahamian citizen and lifetime resident of the Exuma's, understands the economic benefits the resort will bring to as many as 20% of the residents of Black Point and the nearby settlements on Staniel and Farmer's Cay. Once the resort is operating, Mr. Smith intends to capitalize on this local labor pool to staff the resort.

Not only will the resort be the major employer in the area, there are other economic benefits to the area providing the necessary infrastructure for supplying the resort and an outlet for native artisan goods. During the construction of the resort every effort will be made to use Bahamian companies to supply goods and services in a competitive environment. Actual construction of the resort will be accomplished with construction teams from around the Bahamas.

It is expected that Great Guana Cay Resort will become the model for future economic growth in the surrounding areas while preserving the natural splendor that attracts tourism, the nation's largest industry.
